Did you know my first presets/filters were commissioned by a pretty popular editing app? They approached me because of my editing and audience and asked me to design a preset pack for them. They then went on to renew my contract with them to make more presets and also expand to a secondary program because of how popular the pack I designed was…and meanwhile I had never shared my presets before because I wasn’t sure they were good enough.
I literally made a best-selling pack for another company before I had the confidence to sell my own packs on my own site. Imposter syndrome is real! Before my first preset pack I never felt my editing was that good. I didn’t think anyone would be interested in buying presets I made. I didn’t think what I did design would be successful because it wouldn’t be good enough. Even after I got the contract I was nervous they would reject my work when it came time to submit…then it was accepted and it sold really well and I realized we truly are our own worst critics.
I learned a lot from that project that wasn’t about editing or preset design. I learned that I need to take a bigger chance on myself and to put my work out there. It can be daunting to work on a new creative project; to take risks or put ourselves out there for failure, but the greatest risk of all is letting fear prevent you from creating at all. We are capable of more than we realize and sometimes it just takes a nudge to take that leap.
So consider this that nudge. That creative project you have that you’ve been too afraid to attempt—go for it. No matter how it ends you’ll learn so much by trying.
And the presets I designed under my own name are briefly 15% off with the code FAREWELLAUTUMN. Click here to shop.
All the best,
Rebecca
